Shamita is a multi-faceted performer and director who enjoys choreographing and devising new work. A trained dancer from an early age, after over 16 years of ballet training and multiple other dance styles, she gradually developed an interest in dance theatre forms such as Butoh alongside her acting. After completing her BA performing arts from Monash University, she studied acting further at Stella Adler AOA Los Angeles, Film and Television Studios international as well as the Meisner technique. As a performing artist her work has travelled across Australia and overseas. Shamita is a keen writer and director, and is popularly consulted for movement direction. She often incorporates intercultural practices and cross disciplinary elements into her work, inspired by everyday experiences, music and sound, and socio- political issues she is driven by. She is also an active performer in Australia's queer scene, and is passionate about creating for the LGBTIQ community.
